"Worrying" data has revealed that Britons born after 1960 are now more likely to die from cardiovascular disease. For the first time in many decades, deaths due to heart-related diseases are on the rise among adults under 65.

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) has analysed data which shows a rapid decline in the UK's heart health since the start of the 2020s, marking the most significant drop in over half a century.

There has been an increase in both the rate and number of deaths among working-age adults aged 20 to 64 due to heart disease. The rate rose to 55 deaths per 100,000 in 2023, up from 49 per 100,000 in 2019, marking the first sustained increase in at least a generation.
