The fate of the Norfolk Pines along Burnie's waterfront has been decided after concerns were raised about the health of the trees and public safety.
The Burnie City Council voted on Tuesday, September 23, to authorise the removal of the deteriorating Norfolk Pine trees at West Beach along the foreshore.
The motion was put forward by councillor Ken Dorsey, who raised concerns about the public safety risk, poor tree condition, declining viability and risk management.
"I like the trees, and I don't think there's anyone in this room that's ever seen the waterfront without them," Cr Dorsey said on Tuesday.
"They are synonymous with Burnie; they are Burnie.
"But they are really in a very poor state."
