Police in Jenda, Mzimba District, have arrested a 71-year-old man, Tyson Nguluwe, for allegedly possessing and selling ivory without a permit. The arrest took place in Mqocha, near the country’s border with Zambia.

According to Jenda Police spokesperson McFarlane Mseteka, Nguluwe was apprehended while attempting to sell the ivory at K70,000 per kilogram.

At the time of his arrest, Nguluwe was found in possession of four ivory tusks weighing a total of 37.10 kilograms. He failed to produce a permit for the ivory.

Nguluwe has since been charged with illegal possession of protected species and selling wildlife products without a permit, contrary to the Wildlife Act.
