Construction crews with heavy equipment have scooped away many tons of dirt along Warm Springs Creek while excavating, shaping and grading what may be the largest river restoration project on record in the Wood River Valley.
The mile-long restoration project is a central aspect of the Warm Springs Preserve, a public area that serves as a well-known dog park and is being redeveloped after having been purchased by the city of Ketchum in 2022 for $8 million.
While the site looks like an eyesore now, the long-term ecological plan for the area is expected to bring increased recreation options and biodiversity.
A large swath of the old golf course on the 65-acre site is being transformed into a manmade floodplain complete with a new river channel, pond and one-acre wetland.
