The Election Commission of India (ECI) has modified the procedure for online voter deletions on its website and app. Under the new rule, applicants will be required to use an e-sign verified through an Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
The move comes days after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi accused the Commission of enabling large-scale 'vote theft'.
Sharing an Indian Express report on X, Rahul Gandhi said, "Mr. Gyanesh, you remembered to put a lock only after we caught the theft.
Now we will catch the thieves too. So tell us, when are you submitting evidence to the CID?"
Rahul has repeatedly alleged manipulation of voter lists through mass deletions, fake additions, and misuse of institutions.
Recently, he claimed that attempts were made to delete more than 6,000 votes in Aland, Karnataka.
