: Former South Tura legislator John Leslee K Sangma has written to the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills requesting steps to maintain the Silence Zone around the Maternity Hospital area during Puja celebrations.

The area is home to the Newborn ICU unit, which is equipped with specialized medical technology for critically ill newborn babies.

Sangma informed that the Ganesh Puja immersion procession on August 31, 2025, exceeded the permissible noise limit of 50 decibels, reaching levels of over 110 decibels. This caused significant disturbance to the patients in the maternity hospital and ICU unit, which is located within 40-50 meters of the procession route.
