SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Some Springfield Catholic school campuses are implementing security changes.

Last month, a gunman opened fire through a church window in Minnesota. He killed two students and wounded 21 people, prompting Catholic school leaders locally to respond.

“Keeping the children safe has got to be the priority,” said Neil Adams.

He practices his Catholic faith at various times and in different churches in Springfield. But starting this week, his choice of locations is limited.

The Catholic Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau has closed Mass during school hours to the public.

He said, “So many times, like something like that happens, it’s only with hindsight everybody says, why didn’t we see it coming?”
