DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A burn ban is in effect for DeKalb County until October 31.
DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency said that the ban is enforced by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) to help protect air quality.
The Agency said the ban is important because open burning releases fine particles and pollutants into the air that can lead to breathing difficulties, especially for children, the elderly, and those with health conditions.
By reducing outdoor burning, ADEM helps improve overall air quality and safeguards public health.
Additionally, no open burning of debris, leaves, or trash is allowed. However, grilling and small fire pits are allowed.
