LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two fired rounds can be the difference for a gun owner clearing their name of any wrongdoing and helping Louisville Metro Police trying to track down a stolen gun.
The "Save-A-Casing" initiative calls on voluntary gun owners to fire two rounds from each of their guns. The two shells that remain are then stored in an envelope marked with the gun’s make, model and serial number.
If that gun is lost or stolen, its owner can take that envelope to LMPD to help track that gun down.
“We see all the time the number of cars that are left unlocked and folks who think, ‘I know I locked it, I know I locked that car,’” said LMPD Lt. Joseph Fox. “Well, sometimes things happen, and in those instances, this is an opportunity for those folks to really help get the leg up.”
