The Whitmer High School prairie has become a living, breathing laboratory for students in the Washington Local Schools.
Eighth graders Jordyn Payne and Leland Reams enjoyed being outside and helping gather information for the district’s first BioBlitz.
“I learned a lot by being outside and not just reading about things in a book,” Jordyn said. “We are able to look at the plants in greater detail. We can look a little harder to be able to see the smaller species of plants and bugs here, too.”
Leland agreed, saying it was fun being out of class.
“I get to see other stuff that is not on paper or in a book,” Leland said. “I know more about plants and animals. I can make sure when I am walking outside to be careful to not step on things.”
