ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Mary Beth Laubenstein, a teacher at Rolling Green Elementary, highlights the importance of sign language in connecting with her students who are deaf and hard of hearing.

Laubenstein, who teaches kindergarten through second grade, uses sign language daily to ensure her students have access to their education in their natural language. She emphasizes the significance of allowing students to communicate freely with their peers and teachers without the need for an interpreter.

"I use sign language all day, every day with my students that are deaf and hard of hearing. It's really important that they have access to language in general and to be able to access their education using their natural language," said Mary Beth Laubenstein.
