An armed suspect with a machete was arrested Wednesday after a four-hour standoff near the Exposition Park neighborhood west of downtown Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Police Department officers responded just before 9:56 p.m. Tuesday to the intersection of Budlong Avenue and Browning Boulevard regarding reports of a suspect armed with a deadly weapon. When they arrived at the scene, the officers encountered a man armed with a machete who was breaking windows and starting fires, according to reports from the scene.

The suspect barricaded himself inside a nearby garage for several hours while the LAPD called a department SWAT team to the scene, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody around 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, LAPD Officer Kevin Terzes told City News Service.
