A man was fatally wounded Wednesday morning in a shooting in Compton, prompting an investigation by homicide detectives, officials said.

Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and crews from the Compton Fire Department were sent about 3:30 a.m. to the 700 block of West Cherry Street after getting an assault with a deadly weapon call.

The victim, described only as a male adult, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name and age were not immediately available.

No details were released about what led up to the shooting.
