Author Daniela Palacios, who grew up in the East Ward, returned to her old neighborhood on Saturday to not only promote her new book, but also to help promote literacy in the city.

Palacios, who graduated from Science Park High School in 2022, made an appearance at Mayor Baraka’s Literacy Town Hall at Oliver Street School on Saturday – the fourth stop on a five-ward tour that brings a different community together each month to highlight the importance of literacy and learn ways to help children improve their proficiency.

Palacios, who is in her senior year at Columbia University studying education and political science, is the founder and owner of Para KIDS!, a bilingual education company that produces children’s books both in English and Spanish.
