Despite story after story urging compassion, Cambridge city council voted 6–3 against a motion that would have asked staff to study how to prevent the forced removal of unhoused people from encampments during extreme weather events.

The motion, introduced by Coun. Scott Hamilton and seconded by Coun. Ross Earnshaw, called for a staff report by the fourth quarter of 2025.

Council heard from several delegates Tuesday evening, most of them in support of the motion.
