The plan to renovate the Bay Spring Community Center hit a snag. According to Barrington Town Manager Phil Hervey, the contractor hired to complete the renovation discovered significant termite damage and wood rot in the town-owned building.
At the Barrington Town Council meeting in early September, Hervey requested an increase in the construction contingency funding — he called for a $50,000 increase, pushing the prior contingency budget of $100,000 to $150,000.
“A structural engineer is in the process of evaluating the extent of the damage to develop a plan for repairs and structural support,” Hervey wrote in a memo to the town council.
