After nine seasons, MTV has cancelled one of its most iconic and successful dating shows, “Catfish.”

On Sept. 22, in a lengthy video posted to social media , host Nev Schulman and former cohost Max Joseph, revealed the news to fans of the show.

“Catfish, as we’ve known it, is over, which is sad, but at the same time, what an incredible journey it’s been,” Schulman said. The two began to lament about all of the time spent flying to different parts of the country, all the reverse image searches, and time spent making questionable phone calls.

“Catfish” ran from 2012 to 2024, accumulating almost 300 episodes of investigative dating work, i.e. figuring out if people were actually speaking to who was presented to them on dating apps.
