LOVES PARK, Ill. — The first day of fall was on Monday, and Rockford fall activities are fast approaching.
On Saturday, the German Society of Rockford is hosting their 61st annual Oktoberfest celebration. It will run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the Loves Park Festival Grounds at 100 Heart Boulevard.
The event is said to have authentic German food from Cafe 20 of Marengo, souvenir booths, kids' activities, and classic Oktoberfest contests like stein holding and stein racing. There will also be live music from Nate Troxell, Barefoot Becky, and the Tom Brusky Polka Band.
Former Loves Park mayor Darryl Lindberg will perform the "tapping of the keg", a ceremony that represents the start of Oktoberfest. Other traditional activities will include authentic German dancing.
