ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Minnesota -- An Iowa man was rescued from a Minnesota wilderness area on Tuesday after suffering an ax injury.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office said that at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday Global Rescue, a company specializing in crisis response, medical evacuation, and security evacuation, reported to them that it had received a SOS notification from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, located in northeast Minnesota, just west of Lake Superior.

It was later learned that a man, identified as a Davenport, Iowa area resident, had cut his leg with an ax and that a tourniquet and bandaging had been used to stop the bleeding, the sheriff's office said.
