BIG STONE GAP, Va. (WJHL) — The Town of Big Stone Gap, in partnership with the non-profit Friends of Southwest Virginia, broke ground this week on the future Big Stone Gap Bike and Skate Park.
A release from the organization said the bike and skate park is funded by the Tyler Flanary Memorial Skate Park Fund, the Town of Big Stone Gap, Friends of Southwest Virginia, the Appalachian Regional Commission, the Anne & Gene Worrell Foundation and the Cumberland Forest Community Fund.
The release said that after Flanary died in 2018, his family, friends and community members created a memorial fund that raised nearly $100,000 to help make the skate park possible.
