SOUTH BEND – Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating after the body of a Mishawaka man was recovered this morning from the St. Joseph River in South Bend.
Shortly after 7 a.m., the South Bend Fire Department, South Bend Police Department, and Indiana Conservation Officers were called to Seitz Park for a report of a person falling into the river.
Upon arrival, first responders searched the last known location of the man. His body was located in that area in about 8-10 feet of water. The man, Travis Bird, 41, of Mishawaka, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Indiana Conservation Officers were also assisted by the Indiana River Rescue School and the St. Joseph County Coroner’s Office.
