With a county body-transport contract set to expire at the end of September and funeral homes warning of unfair advantages in the bidding process, Potter County commissioners on Monday, Sept. 22 postponed awarding a new deal, citing mounting complaints and the need for a fairer system.

The county had been expected to approve a new contract with Shafer Mortuary Services, which submitted the lowest bid under Request for Bids #1270-25. But after nearly two hours of public comment from funeral directors and citizens raising conflict-of-interest concerns, commissioners voted unanimously to delay a decision and extend their existing agreement with Jobe Mortuary Services until a broader plan can be negotiated.
