MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Federal prosecutors appealed a ruling granting a new trial for three former Memphis Police officers found guilty on charges related to the death of Tyre Nichols.

The appeal by the United States Attorney asked the United States Court of Appeals to determine whether former officers Tadarrius Bean, Justin Smith, and Demetrius Haley should be granted a new trial.

Judge Sheryl Lipman ordered a new trial for the officers after the abrupt recusal of Judge Mark Norris. Norris presided over that first trial.
