MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis broke ground Tuesday on the nonprofit's biggest project in years.

"We're always pushing, challenging ourselves to do more," explained Dwayne Spencer, the president & CEO of the organization. "There are so many people out there counting on us to do that."

The nonprofit plans to build 52 single-family homes on Chelsea Avenue and Third Street.

Each home should have at least two bathrooms as well as three to four bedrooms, Spencer said.

There will also be granite countertops and stainless-steel appliances in the new builds.

The project should be complete in eighteen months.

"The beauty of the program is that we don't charge any interest," Spencer explained.

His team predicts the mortgage for each home will be about $900 monthly pl
