CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Cincinnati City Council approved two motions that support Cincinnati firefighters and settle a lawsuit, ensuring more support is given to firefighters who have occupational illnesses.
Wednesday’s unanimous votes came after a cultural assessment released last week showed trust and transparency issues within the Cincinnati Fire Department.
Both of the motions were favored by the firefighter union, Local 48.
Union vice president Melissa Arnold said these motions are a positive step toward addressing issues CFD faces.
“It’s one thing to say they’re going to do something, but another to see if they do it,” said Arnold.
The first motion passed would allow firefighters with occupational illnesses to see their doctors without having to use a PTO day.
