HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- In recent years, there has been substantial growth and increasing travel through the Grand Strand, but over the next three years, Horry County will work to improve Forestbrook Road.

Beginning in 2017, the county began collecting a one-cent sales tax to fund the RIDE (Road Improvement and Development Effort) 3 programs. Now that the sales tax for RIDE 3 has ended, the county is ready to begin its next project: Widening Forestbrook Road.

"There will be a lot of multi-modal facilities added," assistant RIDE program manager Anna Barnhill said. "And it's just going to make that corridor a lot easier to travel."

In addition to making current travel easier, Barnhill said the project is being designed with future drivers in mind.
