MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) --The Grand Strand community is mourning the loss of Welby Sheldon 'Buddy' Bailey, who died at 68 years old on Tuesday.
Bailey left his footprint on the baseball world, leading the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to a league title during his first year as the team's manager. Beyond the dugout, those who knew Bailey remember him as kind, funny and a great man.
"When everyone's remembering him, like, everyone remembers him with a smile," former Pelicans commentator Sam Weiderhaft said. "Everyone's smiling when they're talking about their memories with him, which I think is really special."
Bailey managed the Pelicans for seven years, with his first stint from 2016 to 2018, and his second from 2021 to 2024. With 490 wins for the Pelicans under his belt, it's no mystery why
