SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -From learning how to use power tools to hammering nails, several volunteers showed up on Wednesday for Habitat for Humanity’s 18th Women Build event.

Organizers and volunteers said the event aims to empower women and bring them together to build and repair homes for families in need.

“We have our Women Build event every year because housing usually affects women and children the most demographically, so that’s why we have this event,” said Brittany Bandstra, the volunteer coordinator. “We also want to empower women on our construction sites and make them feel comfortable holding a saw or doing a hammer or trying a new skill.”

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls completes about ten houses and sixty neighborhood revitalization projects a year.
