Temperatures start a warming trend Thursday afternoon with storm chances returning to southwest New Mexico. A storm system will bring widespread rain and thunderstorm chances this weekend.

It was a chilly start to the day across New Mexico, with some places waking up to the coolest air in months. High temperatures are climbing back up to around average for this time of year this afternoon. It's a much drier and quieter day too, with only a couple spotty showers and storms over the Gila region in southwest New Mexico. These storms will end later tonight as they move into the lower Rio Grande Valley, but a few spotty showers may linger along the Arizona state line.
