WITTMANN, AZ (AZFamily) — Arizona Treasurer Kimberly Yee is sounding the alarm for a small school district northwest of the Valley as it reportedly shows signs of financial distress.
According to the treasurer’s office, Yee denied a $3 million cash advance that the Nadaburg Unified School District requested. The district serves the rural community of Wittmann, situated along U.S. 60, approximately 35 miles northwest of Phoenix. It also has one elementary school within the city limits of Surprise.
In a news release issued Wednesday, Yee called the projected $5 million deficit “significant and raises concern that the deficit may be attributable to gross financial mismanagement.”
