BUFFALO, N.Y. — Erie County has officially launched a new pilot program to test renewable diesel across part of its public works fleet.
County leaders said Wednesday that renewable diesel can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90 percent, and it works with current diesel engines.
With the county using about 360,000 gallons of diesel annually, officials said this pilot is a key step toward cutting emissions and moving the county toward a cleaner, more sustainable future.
Erie County is the first county in the state to implement this renewable fuel.
