BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The Kern County Fire Department is asking the Kern County Board of Supervisors to declare a local emergency following the heavy rains and flooding that affected eastern Kern County last week.

On Sept. 18, the National Weather Service issued two flash flood warnings in Kern County: one at 3:45 p.m. for the Edwards Air Force Base and North Edwards area, and another at 7:20 p.m. to the Borel Burn Scar, the same area impacted by the Borel Fire last year, KCFD said in the agenda.

Major water flows impacted eastern Kern County in areas like Johannesburg, Randsburg, Red Mountain, California City and Ridgecrest from Sept. 18 into the next morning. This caused major damage to multiple roads in the area, according to KCFD.
