Communications Minister Anika Wells has promoted the government’s under-16 social media ban on the world stage, despite key details of the law being unclear.
Ms Wells and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese showcased the controversial legislation at the United Nations on Thursday, even as doubts remain about its implementation.
“The truth is that our legislation is where the world is going,” Mr Albanese told reporters at a press conference outside the UN.
Ms Wells described the legislation as “word-leading” and said she had “lots of meetings” with interested parties and countries about how the laws would work.
EU President Ursula von der Leyen even said she was "inspired" by the social media ban, despite it not having taken effect.
