Shadow home affairs minister Andrew Hastie has wedged Opposition Leader Sussan Ley on immigration, pushing the Liberal Party to cut net overseas migration.
Ms Ley presided over a historic low in the party's primary support , with men, young voters, and residents of eastern states largely abandoning the party.
Mr Hastie has since warned the Liberal Party will be “in exile for a long time” unless it moves to reduce net overseas migration.
His comments come just weeks after he threatened to quit the frontbench over the Coalition’s commitment to net zero emissions .
