ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. — Josh VanValkenburg bought a two-bedroom, two-bath condo in St. Louis Park a couple of years ago to be closer to his son, Landon.

"This was close to his schools and everything, giving me a place to come to and spend time with him," VanValkenburg said while showing the unit to KARE 11 News.

When the boy and his mom moved from the St. Louis Park area, rather than sell the condo, VanValkenburg decided to rent it out for extra income to help him pay for a new place.

"So I could still be close to him," VanValkenburg said.

He listed it on Zillow and found what seemed like a good tenant — Darryon Hoskins.

"Really liked this individual and, you know, had a good feeling about him," VanValkenburg said.
