MINNEAPOLIS — Along a busy stretch of Lyndale Avenue in south Minneapolis, handmade signs were held high and arms stretched wide as neighbors came together in grief and solidarity. Lining the sidewalk on Wednesday evening, they formed what they called a tunnel of love. The initiative, community members said, is meant to offer support for Annunciation Catholic Church and School after two children attending mass in the school sanctuary were killed by gunfire . Eighteen others, mostly children, were injured in the shooting on August 27.

"It should not have ever happened," said south Minneapolis resident Terri Keacher. "We need to stand in support of the community."
