BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The WBRC First Alert Weather Team declared Wednesday and Thursday First Alert Weather Days for heavy rain and storms . It’s the first widespread system we’ve seen in weeks.
While we are fortunate to get some much needed rain for a couple days, our First Alert Weather Team said it won’t be enough to eliminate our drought conditions.
Right now, nearly every county in our state is classified as either “abnormally dry” or experiencing a “moderate drought.”
WBRC Meteorologist Lauren Linahan said it’s about more than how much rain falls. You have to think about the ground water or lack thereof.
Rainfall totals Wednesday are expected to average close to an inch, but that’s just not enough to soak deep into the soil and replenish the water levels.
