BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- Car seats are supposed to keep kids safe, but only if they're installed the right way. On Wednesday, certified car seat technicians helped families at the Bath Area Family Resource Center to help them do just that.

It may seem simple, but installing a car seat properly can be quite challenging. Parents came to the free checks hosted by ProAction of Steuben and Yates , not only for peace of mind, but for hands-on guidance.

The technicians helped ensure correct installation, swapped out expired car seats, and ultimately made sure every child was buckled in safely.

This week also marks a nationwide initiative, Child Passenger Safety Week . From September 21 to 27, local agencies host free check events and try to bring heightened awareness to families. National Sea
