Homeschooling is surging in NSW with the COVID-19 pandemic leading to significant changes to the education system, a new report has found.

A performance audit by the New South Wales Auditor-General, released on September 25, found the number of children homeschooled has doubled in the most populous state.

In 2019, there were 5906 homeschooling registrations. By 2024, that number had skyrocketed to 12,762.

Fifty-four per cent of those students in 2024 had previously attended a NSW school.
