A 'frustrated' man caused a three-week old baby to collapse and have a fit after shaking the child. The youngster was taken to hospital and was found to have bleeding on the brain and a broken collarbone.
The newborn also had bruises to the hands and arms which were older than the brain injury - likened by doctors to one seen after a serious road traffic accident or, "if a child is dropped from a height".
Adam Hall, 30, appeared at Teesside Crown Court on Thursday, September 25. He pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm at an earlier hearing.
Mitigating, Derek Duffy said that it had been one episode, a number of years ago, and that Hall had become "frustrated". Doctors thought that the bruising may have been down to the child being "gripped very tightly".
