The Telangana government has decided to take full control of Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-I, as L&T has chosen to exit the project.

As part of the deal, the State will take over the project’s debt of about Rs 13,000 crore and also pay Rs 2,000 crore to L&T for its equity share. This means L&T will no longer be involved in the metro project.

Talks were held between Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and L&T officials to resolve the long-pending issues. L&T refused to join Phase-II as an equity partner or sign an agreement to link Phase-I with the new expansion. Instead, the company offered to hand over its entire stake to the State.

With this takeover, the Telangana government will now have complete control of Metro Phase-I, which is expected to make it easier to push forward the 160 km Phase-
