WESTFIELD, Ind. — An almost 200-year-old historic building in Westfield will get a new lease on life in 2026.
The iconic "Green Building" was built in 1837, just 11 years after Indiana first became a state. As part of the reconstruction along State Road 32 , INDOT is covering half of the $2,393,000 cost to move and rehabilitate the landmark.
“As we move toward Westfield’s bright future, we cannot forget where we came from,” Mayor Scott Willis (R-Westfield) said. “This project completes the preservation work started by the previous administration and protects this piece of our history for generations to come.”
The building will move north from its current location, along State Road 32 near Union Street up to near the Basile Westfield Playhouse.
Starting in late October or early November
