45-year sentence for man who reached for victim’s gun, shot him

CROWN POINT — A Gary man was sentenced to 45 years in prison Wednesday for the 2023 murder of a 26-year-old man at a convenience store.

Melvion Delphie, 23, shot and killed Alexander Hudson Jan. 28, 2023, inside the One Stop Convenience Shop in Gary. He pleaded guilty to one count of murder in exchange for the dismissal of charges of robbery and theft against him.

The 45-year sentence was agreed to between the prosecution and the defense. Co-defendant Larry Saunders, 20, is scheduled to be sentenced in the case Thursday morning.

"No matter how much time you get," Alexander Hudson's sister Amanda Hudson said, "it doesn't stop that you took my brother from me."
