DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa State Capitol Bureau) -- John Higham spent three decades in the aerospace industry but said that he considers himself to be a “car guy.” He has been especially fascinated with electric vehicles, so much so that he converted a Mazda Miata with his son to an electric vehicle several years.

Higham laments how EV policy has often become “politically maligned.” He said, “I think a lot of it is due to the political climate that we that we find ourselves currently in different camps.”

Despite the fact that Tesla CEO Elon Musk spent more than a quarter billion dollars to elect Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for president in 2024, Higham feels that EV’s are linked with Democratic politics.
