Leonardo DiCaprio was told his name was too ethnic, agent said to change it

A renowned movie star recently revealed a bizarre request made by his former agent.

Leonardo DiCaprio shared that one of his old agents wanted him to change his stage name, in a recent episode of “ New Heights ” with Jason and Travis Kelce .

The Hollywood legend said an agent told him that his name was “too ethnic” in his early teens, urging the actor to go by the stage name of Lenny Williams instead.

“I finally got an agent. They said, ‘Your name is too ethnic,’” DiCaprio said. “I go, ‘What do you mean? It’s Leonardo DiCaprio?’ They go, ‘No, too ethnic. They’re never going to hire you. Your new name is Lenny Williams.’”

The “Titanic” star said when he showed his father a headshot printed with the suggested name, his dad ripped it up and said “over my dead body.”
