Many law enforcement agencies in the New Orleans area and across the state of Louisiana have reported problems receiving 911 calls on Thursday.
“This is a regional outage due to a 911 fiber line being cut. We’re not sure where,” said Jay Vise, public information officer for the Orleans Parish Communication District. “It’s causing major 911 operations outages across Louisiana and Mississippi.”
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office received notification of issues about 1:30 p.m., said Sgt. Brandon Veal, spokesperson for the department.
In the New Orleans area, 911 disruptions are being reported in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, St. John the Baptist and St. Bernard Parishes.
