BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A widespread 911 outage is impacting much of Louisiana on Thursday, with several parishes reporting that emergency calls cannot get through.
The Desoto Parish Sheriff’s Office says the outage, which began just after 1 p.m., is due to a “major fiber cut.” In Pointe Coupee Parish, officials linked the outage to a “technical issue with AT&T.”
Orleans officials say the fiber cut occurred in Mississippi, which is also experiencing statewide outages. The outage is expected to last hours.
Some parishes report that only landline phones are able to reach emergency lines.
Officials have provided alternate numbers for emergencies in the following parishes:
Acadia Parish:
Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office: (337) 788-8700
Church Point Police Department: (337) 684-5455
