GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Multiple outlets are reporting that Sara Jane Moore, a woman who tried to assassinate former President Gerald R. Ford, has died. She was 95 years old.

The Nashville Banner was the first to break the news Wednesday night, reporting that Moore passed away at a nursing home in Franklin, Tennessee. She died two days after the 50th anniversary of her attempt to kill the president.

On Sept. 22, 1975, Ford was in San Francisco to address the World Affairs Council when Moore, who was approximately 50 feet away, pulled out a revolver and fired a shot at Ford. That shot missed. When she went to fire a second time, a bystander — a former Marine named Oliver Sipple — pulled on her arm. That shot also missed the president but ricocheted and grazed another man.
