Neil Alexander Barry, a former NWT basketball coach, teacher and student counsellor, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for sexually assaulting two Indigenous teenage boys in 2009.
The sentence, handed down in NWT Supreme Court on Sept. 10, also includes Barry being listed as a sexual offender for 20 years and he must submit DNA samples to a registry. He's also not allowed to possess firearms for 10 years. In addition, there's a no-contact order between Barry and victims.
The offender was found guilty of sexually assaulting two teenaged boys when Barry was 32.
Both incidents occurred in hotel rooms where Barry was a basketball coach or acting as an adult chaperone on a trip. The boys were awoken by Barry assaulting them, the court heard.
