The country is once again in the midst of another postal strike.

This new job action was announced late Thursday by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers , the union that represents Canada Post employees, in response to what the union calls an "attack" on postal workers by the federal government.

Joel Lightbound, Minister responsible for Canada Post, announced in Ottawa Thursday three directives to stabilize Canada Post’s finances. Those include letter mail delivery standards, community mailbox conversions and postal network modernization.

"Minister Lightbound gave the union no indication that he was going to do this when (union) leadership met with him last week," stated the union. "The Minister said he had the “utmost respect” for postal workers. This is no way to show it."
